Provides professional expertise, guidance and assistance to Clinical Engineering Services in the areas of Clinical Equipment Network Systems. Responsible for the planning, maintenance and management of LAN/WAN-based biomedical and imaging network devices and infrastructure.


  • Monitors and supports clinical equipment that utilizes networking technologies and/or Unix or Windows based controllers. Provides technical assistance to all Clinical Engineering staff and on-site service as necessary.
  • Serves as Network Administrator for various Clinical Equipment systems not managed by Information Services.  This includes managing user security and access, data backup processes, installation and/or upgrades of related servers and workstations.  Also, works with vendors on hardware and software patch implementation
  • Develops documentation of data maps and network layout diagrams. Maintains database of all system related information related to Clinical Equipment including IP data, OS, criticality and recovery information. Develops and maintains network addressing schemes.
  • Develops program documentation and user instruction manuals. Provides technical instruction & training to others as needed or required.
  • Develops and writes policy drafts relating to Clinical Equipment Network systems and processes for review and approval by department manager
  • Serves as Clinical Engineering Project Manager for implementation of clinical equipment requiring network interface configurations.  Prepares project timelines to outline project milestones and responsibilities as they are assigned. Works directly with vendors and all levels of management and support staff for scheduling and ensuring a timely adherence to established timelines
  • Records activities related to maintenance, support and project activities in the Clinical Engineering Equipment Management system (ISISPro)


  • Required to have a strong working knowledge of electronics, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, regulatory guidelines, and biomedical principles.
  • Advanced analysis of test data and interpretation of schematic diagrams is frequently required.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form, presenting a professional image at all times.
  • Ability to provide technical instruction and training to others.
  • Must have detailed knowledge of HIPPA and WFHC security standards and policy.
  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of standards and principles which govern electronic interchange of clinical data which use HL7, DICOM, TCPIP, and other protocols as they apply to the support and maintenance of Biomedical networked systems.
  • Manufacturer specific technical training on multiple modalities, and the ability to apply that knowledge in support of equipment throughout the healthcare system.
